About Tsarkva Village

Tsarkva village is located 6km from the main black sea resort of Albena and 40km from Varna airport. Other nearby places include Balchik, Golden Sands and Kavarna, all within a short driving distance. Varna, the third largest city in Bulgaria is also only 40km away and is excellent for shopping or for just spending a day taking in the culture.

Tsarkva is a traditional small Bulgarian village within the municipality of Dobrich and you will find that it allows you to see the real Bulgaria, with real Bulgarian people instead of the artificial impression of Bulgaria you will get by staying in one of the the holiday resorts.

The village is mainly a farming and residential village for the workers in the Albena resort and has two small shops which are situated in the village square near the mayors office and a bar run by an English family who have moved permanently to the village. You will often see donkeys pulling carts of fruit and nuts or farmers taking their herds of cows, sheep and goats to the meadow to graze on the common land.

The villagers are friendly although the majority of them can only speak Bulgarian (which makes holding a conversation somewhat difficult). The shop keepers and a few of the villagers do know enough English to get by which means that you can buy your bread and milk without having to put on a charades show!!

The whole village overlooks the meadow (used for grazing cattle) and forest with the villa having the best view of this being located in the south east corner of the village. There are apparently wild boar running around deep in the forest which some of the locals hunt during the winter time!
